ASUS ZenFone 7 - What we already know about the smartphone!

ASUS is a gigantic and well-known brand in the world of computers, offering components of undeniable quality for the enthusiastic world, a gigantic line of notebooks, as well as peripherals for all tastes. That said, it is also a brand that has been playing with Android smartphones for some years, being responsible for one of the smartphones that most impressed me last year, the ZenFone 6 with its 'Flip' camera module and brutal performance thanks to implementation of a Snapdragon 855 on a budget device.

It was a device that undeniably changed the paradigm for the brand, being a resounding success, after the ZenFone 5Z failed to impress the public a little.

Due to my experience with ZenFone 6, I am completely excited to know what steps ASUS is planning to take with its new ZenFone 7. It's just that I really feel in my bones that the '6' was the beginning of something very good for the manufacturer, but even better for our pockets. So let's try to understand everything that is already known about this device.

Therefore, some rumors mention a new bet on a 6.4 ”IPS LCD screen (however, there is still the possibility for ASUS to opt for a 90Hz OLED screen). In addition, we find in the list of specifications the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, as well as 8GB of RAM and 128 / 256GB of internal storage.

To complete the package, we will still have the same 5000mAh battery from last year, or maybe something even bigger, since the SD865 requires the support of new generation 5G networks. Of course, it has some impact on battery life. Still, it is likely that ASUS will also bet on fast charging to overcome this difficulty.

As for the software, we will have the latest Android 10 with the ZenUI skin on top. (One of the cleanest skins on the market).

Despite the current crazy market, where we have smartphones with 4 and 5 rear cameras, it is likely that ASUS will be a little more humble in this field, when betting on a module with 3 cameras, in which the main sensor should have a few decent 64MP. From the ‘leaked’ image, it’s hard to see if the ‘Flip’ module will come back, but it seems not! At the end of the cable, it is possible to see a hole in the screen in the image above.

In parallel, it is possible to see a fingerprint sensor at the rear, which unfortunately gives some strength to the integration of the IPS LCD screen instead of an OLED panel.

This theme is still a complete unknown, especially when we put the expensive SoC Snapdragon 865 in the equation. Still, it is expected that the device will not significantly increase in price compared to last year. In other words, I would expect something between 550 and 700 € for the 8GB and 128GB storage version.

Release date of

In my most honest opinion, I think Coronavirus will delay ZenFone 7's arrival to the market a little. In fact, I've heard some rumors mentioning July or August instead of the traditional release date.

However, as production is returning to normal in Asia, the manufacturer may be able to give some news in the coming weeks. After all, ZenFone 6 was released in May 2019, so we still have some time to see how things will go.
