LG wants to come back! – The recent LG Velvet 5G is easily one of the most interesting devices in the mid-range market, offering performance, build quality, and of course .. A simple but beautiful and super refined design. Having said all that, LG said at the recent shareholder meeting that it is planning to launch a cheap 5G smartphone by the end of the year, to start attacking the strong and ugly market.
LG wants to come back in force with cheap 5G smartphones!
So, with the 5G smartphone market starting to enter that curious phase when everyone and their dog will want to have one… LG is also preparing to start gaining a significant market share in important markets such as the United States and South Korea.
All of this while there is also work to be done with chip vendors to try to offer a cheap device. (But still powerful)
Cheap 5G Smartphones?
Although LG recently launched the Velvet 5G equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G 5G SoC, the price is certainly not the most appealing to the masses. Therefore, the manufacturer decided to launch another 4G version of the device with the old SoC Snapdragon 845. In addition, it is now also preparing a new Velvet based on the SoC Snapdragon 690G 5G.
In parallel, LG is also expected to bet strong and ugly on its Q range by launching the LG Q92 5G and Q9 2020 5G, which may well be the cheapest 5G smartphones on the market at the time of its launch. After all, LG admitted that the launch of the first 5G iPhones will serve as a ‘boost’ for this market! And as such, it is necessary to do something.
LG smartphones are making an impact again! (Slowly)
LG was once one of the greats in this smartphone world, but for one reason or another it ended up disappearing.
However, it seems that all the efforts of the new management are now beginning to bear some fruit, as in this second quarter of 2020, LG posted an increase of 31.1% quarter on quarter. Yes, the company is still unable to make money in this segment, but it seems that the restructuring is finally having the expected effect.
After all, in a world where 1000 € high-end smartphones reign… LG is betting on devices below 600 €, with ‘premium’ specifications and design.
