The 2020 iPad Pro range, launched in mid-March, can be accompanied by a 5G model later this year. Although it may belong to the same range, the information circulating on the Internet states that it should incorporate a series of improvements, including a major update at the level of the screen. However, according to a well-known analyst, the iPad Pro Mini-LED was postponed, mainly due to the panel that offers some complexity.
New iPad Pro Mini-LED may have been postponed to 2021
The iPhone and Apple Watch incorporate OLED screens, by default. The only exception is the newly announced iPhone SE. On the other hand, all iPads have an LCD screen, regardless of the price.
This has led many users to request a change to an OLED screen over the years. However, the apple giant has always shown little interest. The main reason is that this manufacturer wants to implement the Mini-LED technology that it has been working on for some time.
The well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in December that a model of the iPad Pro with the new screen would be launched this year, probably alongside the iPhone 12. However, now, another analyst named Jeff Pu now believes that the equipment has been delayed until 2021 because of the “complex panel design”.
The analyst in question did not elaborate, but the decision may be related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Apple employees are currently working from home, and while some continue to develop prototypes, workflow efficiency has declined.
With a product as important as the iPad Pro Mini-LED, which would represent the biggest update of the line since 2018, Apple probably decided that accelerating the launch is not a good idea.
However, even with the postponement, this year we may still have another iPad. I speak specifically of an iPad Pro 5G equipped with the A14x Bionic chipset. This should have a design closer to the usual. However, in the model that arrives in 2o21 we can count on visibly thinner frames and some changes on the rear panel.
If Apple moves forward with this plan, other models could also be tweaked. Thus, the iPad, iPad Mini and iPad Air that incorporate the existing design of the iPad Pro, may also undergo changes.
