Although NVIDIA is the queen and lady of the graphics card world, the truth is that the green giant was not expecting AMD to do what it did with its range of Navi graphics cards, especially the RX 5700, RX 5700 XT and RX 5600 XT that impressed strong and ugly in the field of performance/price.
In case you don’t remember, AMD even made ‘bait’ to NVIDIA in both releases! Since it first ‘fooled’ NVIDIA with a higher price on the RX 5700, promptly downloading it to undercut the new RTX 2070 Super and RTX 2060 Super when they were announced. And it subsequently released a BIOS update for the RX 5600 XT, when NVIDIA decided to lower the price of rtx 2060.
In short, even with the throne of performance, NVIDIA wants to ensure that it puts AMD in its proper place in the next generation of graphics cards! That’s after the rival decided to play too much in the last few months.
NVIDIA will bet everything in 2020 to put AMD in your pocket!
So first of all, we need to understand why AMD has managed to steal market share from rival NVIDIA. One of the reasons has already been said above, that it was nothing less than aggressive launches, ready to attack the products of the rival.
However, it is undeniable that one of the most important factors was that AMD took advantage of its most advanced production process to launch truly interesting products. That is, basically what you did with the Ryzen processor range. What of course is, it has greatly angered the graphics giant, so in 2020 we will see the implementation of a serious strategy to eliminate AMD and its Navi graphics cards from the equation.
1. NVIDIA has many players waiting for the optimal height for the upgrade
In case you don’t know, only 2% of NVIDIA graphics card users have a state-of-the-art card on their machine (Turing). In fact, 90% of players with company components use a graphics card below the performance levels of the GTX 1660 Ti.
So it’s easy to say that there are very good people waiting for a generation of really innovative graphics cards to make the leap! At the end of the day, although powerful, the RTX 2000 were by no means a big step forward, since the RTX 2080 only equaled the GTX 1080 Ti.
The only card with higher performance levels was even the RTX 2080 Ti, but truth be told, it’s too each.
2. AMD no longer has the advantage in the process!
The new RTX 3000 graphics cards based on the Ampere architecture should already rely on TSMC’s 7nm production process, instead of the 12nm that turing architecture brought up the table.
As such, they should be able to offer a good boost in performance and energy efficiency. In fact, several rumors and leaks indicate that the new Ampere cards are 50% faster than their predecessors, at the same time that they consume half the energy.
3. Lower prices?
NVIDIA has already realized that it has competition in the market, and as such, will have to abandon the “quality needs to be paid” strategy. Thus, if the manufacturer launches products with performance well above what AMD can launch in the market, at ‘fair’ prices… It’s impossible not to win this war!
Meanwhile, both NVIDIA and AMD are expected to launch their new range of cards by the end of the summer, later in October.
