The PC market is growing! (Thanks to COVID)

by ace

The Coronavirus brought additional difficulties for several industries, many of them still do not know how they are going to overcome this phase … But if there is an industry that is growing with the situation, it is the world of PCs! After all, this market grew significantly in the second quarter of 2020, after an equally significant drop in the first quarter.

The PC market is better than ever! (Thanks to COVID)

Therefore, as we reported earlier this year, Intel’s production difficulties in conjunction with the closure of several factories in China due to COVID-19, led to an abrupt drop in sales in the first quarter of the year. (Remittances dropped between 8 and 12%, this being the worst quarter since 2013)

However, as soon as COVID arrived in the West, and the vast majority of the workforce was sent home for telecommuting, and students went home to the tele-school … We immediately had a real explosion in the computer market! After all, we are talking about an increase of 11.2%, that is, 72.3 million units sent to stores. However, it was also advanced that the notebook market grew 24% in the second quarter of the year.

Who rules the PC world?

We are not sure, as IDC and Canalys point to HP, while Gartner points to Lenovo. Still, the three market research firms came to the conclusion that HP was the one with the highest growth in the market (~ 17%).

Will this trend be able to continue in what remains of 2020?

Everything that rises also falls. And in fact, with a black cloud over our heads (post-covid crisis), it is difficult to know whether this growth trend has the strength to continue or not.
